When you beat a level after grabbing the Chao key, you get sent to the Chao World. What are Chao and how do you get the ultimate Chao? Those questions will be answered eventually here.

What are Chao?

Chao are small genetically engineered creatures in the Sonic series that are able to be raised in some games.

How do I get Chao?

When you first go into the Chao Garden, you find two eggs. There are three ways to hatch them. You can leave it there and wait, which has a default-happiness-rating of neutral. You could throw it against the wall or into the water, which allows you to hatch a chao quickly, but gives a high percentage chance of a Crybaby nature. The final, and best way, is to rock the Chao's egg.
There is an additional egg in both the Dark and Hero Gardens, unlocked whenever you obtain a Dark/Hero Chao.

Getting Specific Types of Chao

There are a high number of types of Chao, but some of them are particularly popular. The Sonic Chao requires you to get a Neutral Running/Running Chao.
The Shadow Chao requires you to get a Dark Running/Running Chao.
The jester Chao requires you to get a Neutral Flying/Flying Chao.
The NiGHTS Chao requires you to get a Dark Flying/Flying Chao.

Unofficial Amy Chao

Get a Red egg and hatch it.
Give the Red Chao dragons(you can find them in the third Chao box on a bunch of levels, as well as near the Air Necklace in Aquatic Mine) until it has the tail.
Give it the dogs from Pumpkin Hill(you can find one at the top of church mountain) until it has lost all of the dragon parts except for the tail. Do the save->remove one part->restart if wrong part is gone, save if correct->repeat as nessacary method.
Put a Pink eggshell on its head.

Unofficial Majun Buu from Dragonball Z Chao

Get a pink baby Chao.(you may as well get the Buu Chao when you try to get the Amy Chao, as the Amy Chao requires a pink eggshell)
Raise it into a Hero Running/Running.
Give it animals as you feel it would make it look more Buu-like.
This method was thought up by me while looking at my white hero running Chao, Hiro. I had a Buu card once although I hate DBZ, and I thought Hiro's head looked really similar to Buu's head. I don't know how'd you'd make it look more Buu-like, though.
