Final Fantasy VII is the best selling Final Fantasy game so far, with a movie sequel(Advent Children) and quite a few spinoffs. Focusing on multi-personality'd Cloud Strife, it seems to be one of the deepest FF games, plot wise, with plenty of additional stuff to do throughout the entire game(unlike X, where you’re stuck doing exactly what you’re supposed to up until you get the airship).

Characters

Cloud Strife

Class: Warrior
Obtained At: He’s the MAIN CHARACTER. You start the game with him, of course.
Random Stuff: The stereotypical "lone mercenary", Cloud Strife seems to be fairly caring, judging by his constant rescuing of Tifa and Aerith. Interestingly enough, he appears to have no less than three voices in his head.

Tifa Lockhart

Class: Monk
Obtained At: Seventh Heaven, a bar in the slums of Midgar.
Random Stuff: Tifa is Cloud’s stubborn childhood friend.

Barret

Class: Gunner
Obtained At: The start.
Random Stuff: Barret can go on a date with Cloud!

Aerith Gainsborough

Class: White Mage
Obtained At: The church in one of the slums.
Random Stuff: She’s kind and caring and a typical White Mage-y person who gets murdered. Huzzah.

Nanaki/Red XIII

Class: something like a Red Mage
Obtained At: Shinra Headquarters.
Random Stuff:

Cait Sith/Reeve

Class: Gambler
Obtained At: Gold Saucer.
Random Stuff: An enigma.

Cid Highwind

Class: Dragoon/Engineer
Obtained At: Rocket Town
Random Stuff: Probably the character that swears the most.

Yuffie Kisaragi

Class: Ninja/Thief
Obtained At: See below.
Random Stuff: Bouncy ninja materia thief!

Vincent Valentine

Class: Sniper/Morpher
Obtained At: Shinra Mansion, in Nibelhiem.
Random Stuff: Vincent Valentine almost was Sephiroth's father. Disturbing, eh?

Plot Analysis

VII begins with Aerith Gainsborough praying at what appears to be a fireplace(I do not understand it either) in one of the slums of Midgar, presumably for world peace or a better world or some other junk like that.
After that highly explanatory intro sequence, you gain control of a badly-rendered “spiky headed jerk”, Cloud Strife. Cloud zips through the Mako Reactor without much difficulty, assisted by Biggs, Wedge, Jessie, and Barret, members of AVALANCHE. On the way through, they are attacked by a giant tentacled robotic monster, which they defeat without much difficulty.
While going back to AVALANCHE’s hideout, Cloud runs into a flower girl, Aerith(of course), and buys a flower from her for one measly gil. He then is attacked by Shinra soldiers, presumably to his dismay. Surrounded, he jumps off the bridge and lands on a train which happens to contain the members of AVALANCHE.
Random stuff happens, involving Tifa, Barret, Cloud, Biggs, Wedge, and some random people.
Aerith gets abducted by ShinRa after Cloud dresses up as a girl and makes some pervert(Don Corneo) think he’s hot.
ShinRa blows stuff up, killing Biggs, Wedge, and Jessie. However, no one really cares. Cloud and company also blow stuff up, so it’s all okay. They meet Red XIII, actually named Nanaki, who Hojo apparently wanted to breed with Aerith for depraved research.
Sephiroth kills people off.
Cloud and company run off to try to figure out what Sephiroth is actually DOING.
Sephiroth summons a giant meteor and goes out to the Northern Crater for lunch.
Cait Sith does not take any illegal substances.
Neither does the person writing this.

Secret Characters

Obtaining Yuffie Kisaragi

As soon as you get to Junon Area, you can get the semi-evil ninja girl who so totally rocks and steals your materia later on. Whoo hoo.
Anywhere where you can see a jungle-type area on the world map; kind of dark green and Cloud’s spiky hair barely is visible, Yuffie has a low appearance rate. Using primarily fire-element attacks, she’ll fight you(with the name “Mystery Ninja”), and after you defeat her(she’s cake), you will be transported to some random plain area. No, I do not know why.
First thing you need to remember is that she is a NINJA. If you take your eyes off of her, then she will RUN AWAY. Which makes sense. If you were a ninja and you were going to inherit an awesome Oriental-type kingdom, you probably would not hang around anyone who may want to pay you back for robbing them.
So, ignore the Save Point. Next, remember that she is very very proud and will happily run away. Do not accept her invitation to fight her again; she'll run off and you have to go and find her with her ridiculously low appearance rate AGAIN.
When she asks you if you're scared of her, respond "....petrified."
Don't ask her for her name.
Also, don't hit her with a rock.

Obtaining Vincent Valentine

In Nibelhiem, open up the stupid safe by looking around the area for the stuff, beat the crap out of Lost Number, and go explore the basement.
I don't like Vincent very much so NYAHAHAHAHAH. Go ask someone who cares.

Enemy Skills

...are the equivelent of Blue Magic.
There are four Enemy Skill materia in the game. One is located in Shinra Headquarters, near where Aerith and Nanaki were held. It's actually located in the cell-thingy that they were in.
One is located somewhere in Shinra's section of Junon, on the bottom floor(not ground floor) of one of the buildings. It's in the bottom right corner. The room apparently is the one with the dog outside.
One is located in the Forgotten City. It's by the bed, I believe.
The final one's with the Chocobo Sage on the Northern Continent.
