Pokémon Crystal - the third game in Metal generation - is oft considered the best Pokémon game thus far, partially because it had the most semi-useful additions, partially because people are very fond of the Johto games. As the first game to include the option of playing as a female character, as well as the first game with the Battle Tower, Crystal is more notable for introducing new aspects to the series that are now taken for granted rather than anything particularly amazing about the game itself.

Crystal's modified plot centered primarily on Suicune: in particular, Eusine's quest to find it, Eusine being the Pokémon world’s number one Suicune fanboy. Other than that, it follows the Gold/Silver plotline. It did, however, feature a special item in order to summon Suicune and made Ho-oh rather more difficult to capture than it needed to: one must first collect all three of the legendary cats before obtaining the Rainbow Wing and having an opportunity to set foot into Ho-oh's lair.

The Odd Egg

Crystal also added the Odd Egg, which is obtained by talking to the Day Care Couple. The odd egg contains a random baby Pokémon (Cleffa, Elekid, Igglybuff, Magby, Pichu, Smoochum, Tyrogue) that has a 50% chance of being in its alternate colour (shiny) form. If the Pokémon is not shiny, then it will have IVs all of zero: in other words, the Odd Egg either contains a rare and potentially valuable Pokémon or it contains complete and utter garbage. Do remember that the contents of the egg are set when you first recieve it: as such, it would be a good idea to save before obtaining the egg and then hatch it as soon as possible if you really want either a shiny or to get the pre-evolution you desire most early on. The Odd Egg also happens to know the mostly-useless move Dizzy Punch to demonstrate the existence of egg moves, which is only noteworthy because it is not actually an egg move for any of those Pokémon.
