Overview
Pokémon Yellow is the third game in the first generation, with the intent of mimicing the anime. As such, the main playable character begins the game with a Pikachu, while the rival starts with Eevee (likely chosen for its overwhelming popularity, or possibly because it has three possible evolutions). Depending on how one does against the first two battles against the rival - the first being in Professor Oak’s Lab and the second being the optional fight on the path to the Pokémon League prior to beating Brock - he will evolve his Eevee differently. Two losses leads to his final team including an Magneton and an Ninetales, with his Eevee evolving into a Vaporeon; a win and a loss (or a win and skipping the second fight) leads to Magneton, Cloyster, and Flareon; and two wins leaves him with Cloyster, Ninetales, and Jolteon.
The storyline - or what little there is, this being a Pokémon game, and an early one at that - is mostly identical to that of Red and Blue, with the addition of Team Rocket - as in Jessie, James, and Meowth - to various parts of the storyline instead of normal Team Rocket grunts.
